Northgate Library Site Chosen

Aug 01, 2002 -- NORTHGATE--The site for the new Northgate Library has been selected, and while many are disappointed nobody is surprised.

The library will be built on the Bon Tire site, which is a small square of land at the corner of NE 105th Street and 5th Avenue. Many in the community had pushed hard for the branch library to be built on the Northgate South parking lot next to a new community center and a daylighted section of Thornton Creek, but the Seattle Public Library board of trustees selected the Bon Tire site because it was readily available at a lower price.

The library will be a new addition to the Northgate neighborhood, and will include a collection of over 40,000 books, computers, a meeting room and more. For more information about the project and the ongoing public design process, call 386-4624 or visit www.spl.org and click the link for "Libraries for All."
