Housing Firm Looks At Northgate Lot
Apr 04, 2001 --
Security Properties, a Seattle-based developer, is negotiating to buy the south parking lot at Northgate Mall from Simon Properties.
The firm is currently developing a six-story, 103-unit mixed use development in Fremont on the former Red Door Parking lot.
Security has asked to meet with local neighborhood groups prior to planning and design. In a letter to several community councils, John Marasco, Security vice president, said, "Our goal is for the property to become a lively neighborhood that is pedestrian friendly, and to offer a solution to the Thornton Creek issue which we know is key to the neighborhood." Marasco said the development could possibly include housing, neighborhood retail, open space, a new branch library, and a Metro Park and Ride lot.
The company wants to meet with community groups in the next few weeks and form an advisory council of neighborhood residents.
Security recently negotiated an agreement with the Fremont Neighborhood Council to resolve community concerns over the visual and physical impact of the project on the surrounding neighborhood (Seattle Press, March 21 issue).
