PIONEER SQUARE: ‘Parking Round the Square’ launched

May 06, 2003 --

SEATTLE—The Pioneer Square Community Association in conjunction with the Pioneer Square Business Improvement Area and the City of Seattle will launch a new parking validation program on today at 10:00 am.

Councilmember Jan Drago and other city dignitaries will be attending the event at the corner of 1st Ave. South and South Washington Street.

“This is very exciting and we anticipate that it will have a positive impact on our Pioneer Square community,” said Tina Bueche, long time community activist in the neighborhood. “We already have 43 merchants and 2 parking facilities committed in the 22 block area for the launch.”

The new program will issue coin-like tokens with a redemption value of $1 to customers with every $20 minimum purchase.

“We are making it even easier to enjoy the flavors of Seattle’s oldest historic neighborhood, Pioneer Square. It’s a perfect opportunity for the community,” said Drago, a Pioneer Square resident.

Although a new concept, Bueche believed consumers will instantly connect with the token. “It’s a little bit of value, that goes a long way,” she said.
